Global Day of Prayer
June 4, 2006
Redwood Covenant Church

(Myles Weiss)

We are gathered here this weekend to say that Jesus is Lord. Right now as we gather here, there are people all over the world saying what we are saying, and that is that there is one Lord and His name is Jesus Christ. What I would like to do tonight is to open us up with a Hebrew prayer, if you don't mind. It is the central prayer to Jesus in Hebrew. Close your eyes and listen.

(Hebrew Prayer)

Hear oh Israel, The Lord our God, The Lord is one. Today we say, hear oh earth, the Lord our God, the Lord is one.

(Worship)

(R.C. Carillo)

These are some statistics from last year; 154 nations across the earth, 220 million people were praying last year. Today there are already 190 + nations that have registered that have said that their nation will be praying. I believe that there is somewhere in the mix of over 500 million people praying across the globe. Praise the Lord. I want to give you a quick low-down of what to expect tonight. Are you expecting? We have pastor's, worship leaders and choirs from churches all over this county. The goal is to pray and worship. There will be times when pastor's pray and the conclusion will be the congregational response, that is your part and it will be up here on the screen. Pastor's, don't forget the congregational responses. So, congregation, let's respond tonight and pray and look forward to a great night.

Father, I do pray that you would bless tonight. That your will would be done in this room. Father, that you would do what you want to do here in Santa Rosa tonight. I thank you for this opportunity to gather with your people, with your church and we exalt you in this place. We say Father come. Rend the heavenly's even now. Spread through out our hearts tonight and spread like a wild fire throughout this region tonight and throughout the globe for your glory, in the name of Jesus, amen.

(Adam Peacock)

Tonight we celebrate the unity of the body of Christ. I am going to pray along those lines after I read Psalm 133. This Psalm prays about the unity and the blessing that would come. We experience that here in Santa Rosa and we experience it now around the world. Behold how good and pleasant it is when the brethren dwell together in unity. Almighty God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit, as we unite the world wide body of believers, we are gathered on today to glorify your name. We bow before your throne of grace and acknowledge that you are the creator of heaven and earth. You existed through all of eternity and in you all things hold together. There is no one like you, Holy and righteous in all of your ways. We submit to your authority and sovereignty as the king of the universe and pray with one voice to enthrone you in our hearts and to honor you before the world.

(Congregational response)

Lord God, you alone are worthy. Great is our admiration. We worship you.

(Adam Peacock)

John 14:6 - Jesus said to him, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me." Jesus came to make a way. He came to make a way for the kingdom of heaven to come to earth. He came to make a way for forgiveness of sin. He came to make a way for reconciliation between us and God and between us and one another. He came to make a way so that we could walk in the purposes of the promises of God. He came to make a way for us to go to the Father, so that we could find identity and walk in incomparable intimacy. We have a lot to be grateful for, amen. We want to lay a foundation of gratitude in this place tonight together. I cannot do that alone, so I want to encourage you to gather with those who are in your immediate area, let's just take a few moments here together and thank our Father for our Lord Jesus Christ. Thank him for allowing us to come into that relationship with him. For the identity, intimacy and purpose. Let's pray with gratitude.

(Prayer)

Thank you for loving the world so greatly that you gave your only son Jesus Christ to die on the cross for our sins, so that we could be reconciled to you. Thank you for giving us the right to call you Father, because of our faith in Jesus Christ as our savior. Nothing, not even principalities and powers is able to separate us from your love that you demonstrated in your son, Jesus Christ.

(Congregational Reading)

Thank you Father for adopting us into your family. We now cry, Abba Father!

(Ben)

Bear with me a little bit as I worship. To know for sure that His faithfulness resounds in the earth. His sovereign grace and mercy is established in that we have come to know the king of glory. Today the Miwok people have heard the way of the salvation of the Lord. We have been here for quite some time, but I can tell you that today in this geographical territory, the kingdom of God is established. We have seen with our eyes and beheld his transformation and eternal purpose, in that Christ be glorified. We walk in the awesome transformation of the eternal spirit, the promise, eternal life. The transformation that He is sovereign, declares us to bring forth His praise. Lord Jesus Christ, you alone are worthy to open the scrolls of history, where you were slain and have redeemed us to the Father by your blood. Thank your interceding for us as our high priest. As we stand before you as many tribes and nations, we confess that you are head of the church and Lord of everything that is in heaven and on earth. Come and draw followers to serve you from every tribe and language. May these become your inheritance in all of the earth. Let your kingdom be established in every nation of the world. Let the governors rule with righteousness and justice and may your Gospel be known to every person on earth and may the blessing bring transformation upon every people. May your name be great from the rising of the son, to it's setting.

(Congregational reading)

Jesus Christ, you are the savior of the world and the Lord of all.

(Barney)

I have been asked to pray into the section regarding confession and forgiveness. How many of you have prayed for revival?

What is keeping it from happening on a greater scale? 2 Chronicles 7:14 tells us that it is because of sin, and you know what?

It is not the sins of the world that is keeping it from happening, because when the world sins, it is just doing what it is supposed to do. It is the sin in the church.

In a George Barna study a few years ago, he found that there is basically very little difference in the lifestyle of those who call themselves Christians and the lifestyle of the world. It's the sin of the church that we want to pray into tonight. I want to read a section of scripture from Psalm 51, but we are first going to have a time of silent reflective prayer, where we bring our sins before God. I don't think we really need to think about it a lot to figure out what our sins are. I think we all know the things that we struggle with, so we are going to take some time to bring those things before God.

Psalm 51 - according to your unfailing love; according to your great compassion blot out my transgressions. Wash away all my iniquity and cleanse me from my sin. Let me hear joy and gladness. Let the bones that have been crushed rejoice. Hide your face from my sins and blot out all of my iniquities. Create in me a clean heart and renew a right spirit within me. Do not cast me from your presence or take your Holy Spirit from me. Restore unto me the joy of thy salvation and grant me a willing spirit to sustain me. You do not delight in sacrifice or I would bring it. You do not take pleasure in burnt offerings. The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit; a broken and contrite heart, O God you will not despise.

Let's just come before the Lord for a few moments of silent reflection and confess our sin.

Lord, we come before you and seek your forgiveness and bring before you our hurt, because of the loss of innocent life in war, because of terrorism, abortion, persecution and senseless murders. Our hearts are broken by every rejection of Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. God, as we stand before you, we know that your eyes behold all things. Our homes are broken by selfishness and immorality. Our lives are polluted by greed, idolatry and sexual sin.

Our churches are divided by rebellious pride. All of the sins that may be found in our world, you have found among your people. We have grieved your heart and Lord we have brought shame to your name. We approach your throne of grace in this hour of need. We ask for your mercy and help to truly repent. We praise you and we thank you for the forgiveness that we have in Jesus Christ, amen.

(Congregational prayer)

God of mercy, pour out your grace. Forgive our sins. Heal our land.

(Steve)

God has said in His word, "If my people who are called by my name will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, forgive their sins and heal their land."

(Fernando)

Dios te bendiga! Turn to your brother or sister next to you and say, "Dios te bendiga."

Let me pray. Holy Father, the spirit of the living God, we confess that we can do nothing apart from you. Living God, we know that you are above all things and Father, that you have done all things. We lift up our prayers to you, in the name of the living Christ. Create in us the desire and ability to carry your heart and to answer the call of the homeless, hungry, desperate, dying, widows, orphans. Take them into your arms and show them your mercy as you meet their needs.

Grant wisdom and insight into every circle of life, so that we can help those that we come in contact with and within our own lives, for your glory and for the well-being of all. Fill us with compassion and the power of the Holy Spirit as a witness in our lives. Amen. En el nombre de Christo Jesus.

(Congregational Reading)

Holy Spirit, we need your comfort and guidance. Come and transform our hearts.

(Sam Tillery)

There is a way for the spirit of God to come down to our hearts. There is a way. We just sang a phrase in that song, "Lord, have your way." In John 17, His way, His prayer is that we be one. Why? So, that the world may believe. Today is the global day of prayer. His way is happening today, because all over this planet the body of Christ is seeking to become one.

We are praying the same prayers, declaring the same things and asking of God with one heart for his purposes to come to our land. That's his way. This section that we are in now is about victory over darkness, the work of the evil one. What is the way that brings down the works of the evil one? It is not our independent way. In fact, what's happening tonight when we worship in song together, that's one way and actually it is a small way in comparison to the rest of our life.

Worship means to attribute worth, so as we begin to embrace the body of Christ, diverse in color and gifting, and we honor prefer one another, we begin to embrace the heart and image of God, for we are created in his image. As we love one another in our diversity, in our differences, so it is we begin to posture ourselves with a different kind of authority to declare His truths and to call down the works of darkness. So, before I pray and you respond, we must understand that there are many ways to do spiritual warfare. God is calling us to a place of oneness.

A little over 4 weeks ago we came together as one to overcome evil with good. Take a look at this video as it illustrates spiritual warfare.

(Spring Clean Video)

When you start hearing the city workers saying that they have seen a miracle today, that is evidence that we are in the process of transformation. Now, when you're called upon in your churches to gather together, that is a spiritual call to war. When we come together to overcome evil with good, stand in the purposes of God and embrace the body of Christ. Even here on this stage as you have seen different representation of various churches and worship, that is an act for incredible posturing for authority. When we pray and come together as one, the heavenly's are shaking and God begins to move to bring healing to our land. These acts of kindness and gathering together are not just another thing to do, we must understand the weight of God. We are saying, "God, have your way tonight." Things like Spring Clean and City Kids Festival and on and on as it may go, as we come together, things happen. Bow with me in prayer,

Lord Jesus Christ, because you were once dead, but now you are risen and alive. Because the Father has given you the name that is above every name, you will defeat all of the powers of darkness. You have prevailed that the gates of hell will not prevail against your church, so we pray for deliverance from demonic oppression over our land. We pray for the tearing down of the strongholds and ideologies that hinder and resist the spreading of the knowledge of God of the Lord Jesus Christ. We resist the plan of the evil one to keep the nations in darkness and we pray heavenly father that you would remove the veil that covers the people's of our land. We ask for open doors, so that the Gospel may enter every nation. Restrain the evil that promotes violence and death. Break the hold of slavery, tyranny and greed. Fill us with the courage to fearlessly and faithfully preach the word of God, and give us the spirit of intercession to cry out on behalf of the lost, and so together we say,

(Congregational Response)

Almighty God, deliver us from evil and the evil one.

(Rick)

Lord Jesus, we pray to acknowledge you tonight as we come together as one to establish heaven's government here on earth. We praise you Lord God that your shoulders are big, strong and good and that you are from beginning to end, Lord of all of the universe. Lord, you are the wonderful counselor, the mighty God, the everlasting Father, the prince of peace, and of the increase of your government there will be no end. Lord, as we look at our world tonight, we pray that you would establish your government in places that have been devastated and your kingdom light might flow into these places. Father, we think of those nations that have been effected by the Tsunami, that your kingdom principals of righteousness would be established in these places. Let it come Lord. Indonesia that has been rocked by an earthquake, let your kingdom of righteousness be established and your light flow to those trapped in darkness.

Lord, we think of our own nation, those in New Orleans and we pray for the various leaders and pastors in that area, that are re-establishing that city. We pray, Father that they would be built up in your righteousness and that kingdom light would flow to New Orleans. You promised long ago that you would restore all things and we welcome you to finish the work in our city, in our people and in our nation. We lift our voices in unison with believer's from across the face of the earth. From Africa, the Middle East, North and South America, Asia, Europe, Australia, the Pacific Islands and from every tribe.

Let's pray together church.

(Congregational Reading)

We lift up your head, oh you gates. Be lifted up king of glory, so that the king of glory may come in.

As your deeds increase throughout the earth and as your blessings abound to all the nations, they seek you asking, "Who is this king of glory?" Together we will answer, "He is the Lord almighty, blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord."

Father, come fill the earth with your glory as the waters cover the sea. The spirit and the bride say, "Amen, Come Lord Jesus."

As we go from this place, may we be carriers of your presence, in Jesus name, Amen.
